María Pérez Tadeo

Holding a B.Sc. in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo and an MSc in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, I am currently a PhD student in the Marine and Freshwater Research Centre since 2018. My research project focuses on the population assessment of Grey (Halichoerus grypus) and Harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) on the west Irish coast, specifically in Galway Bay and the Blasket Islands SAC, through a combination of non-invasive methods such as behaviour, acoustic techniques, and photo-identification. The outcomes of this research will be used to provide policy advice and help Ireland meet legislative obligations in relation to the conservation and management of these species, addressing concerns that are required under the Habitats Directive and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
